At Moorcroft Service Station we can supply and fit a wide range of exhausts that will suit most vehicles.
The exhaust system is one of the hardest working components on your vehicle. It is constantly in use whilst the engine is running. An exhaust system on most vehicles usually comprises of four sections:
- Front Downpipe
- Centre Section
- Rear silencer box
All vehicles registered after 1993 must also have a catalytic converter fitted.
The sections which most often fail are the centre and rear sections as moisture gathers here and causes corrosion from inside. This results in a hole which causes the exhaust to “blow”. A defective exhaust means the vehicle could fail the MOT test. It can also cause excessive noise which can result in a fixed penalty fine. The fumes can enter the vehicle causing headaches, drowsiness etc.

Catalytic converters are now fitted to all petrol engined vehicles and help to remove harmful pollution from the exhaust gases. This expensive and high-tech component fits within the exhaust system and from the outside looks rather like a typical silencer box.
The catalytic converter is an integral part of the engine’s operation and affects the vehicles performance; sensors control the gases entering and leaving the catalytic converter which are controlled by the engine management system.
The catalytic converter’s effectiveness is measured by testing the exhaust gas emissions. This is an important part of the MOT and service requirements on all modern vehicles.
Diesel vehicles & diesel particulate filters.
Diesel engine vehicles are usually fitted with a D.P.F. (diesel particulate filter) which looks similar to a catalytic converter. These are usually trouble free until they become blocked or fail to “regenerate”. Please ask for further advice.
